FAQ
Bike the Triangle Challenge Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I’m having trouble with the platform. Who can I reach out to for tech support?
A: Our team at Share the Ride NC is happy to help with any issues you may hit along the way. Contact us at admin@sharetheridenc.org, or at (919) 485-7484.
Q: What important dates should I know for this challenge?
A: Teams can register on April 15. Only trips tracked in the Commute Calendar between May 1 to May 31 count towards the Bike the Triangle Challenge. June 3 is the last day to record trips for May. Prize drawings and winner announcements are done weekly. Because of this, participants are encouraged to track trips daily.
Q: When should I track my trips?
A: There will be weekly winners and drawings. Participants are encouraged to record their trips daily, however, the weekly drawing will occur each Monday of the following week. That gives members a chance to record their trips from the previous week prior to the next drawing.
Q: Where and how do I track my trips?
A: Trips are tracked using the Share the Ride NC Commute Calendar. (STRNC Commute Calendar tutorial video.) To access the Commute Calendar, select Log My Commute then My Commute Calendar from the top toolbar. Select the trip mode icon (e.g orange bicycle), then drag and drop the mode icon on the day that mode was used. Any commute mode like bicycle, carpool, transit, walk, etc. can be tracked in the calendar but for Bike the Triangle, only bicycle trips earn points.
Q: How do I log trips, sign up, or create a team?
A: Check out our Bike the Triangle Challenge About page for helpful tips, or login to access the Instructions and Rules page for a step-by-step guide.
Q: I don’t have a team, but I’d still like to participate. How can I join?
A: No problem, the Bike the Triangle Challenge has four team categories, and Individual is a category. The other team categories are: Two Person, Small-Group (3-5 members) and Large Group (6-10 members).
Q: What if I started the Bike the Triangle Challenge as an individual but found someone to join my team?
A: You can add someone to your team at any point during the Bike the Triangle Challenge.
Q: What if we have more than 10 people on our team?
A: The maximum team size is 10 but there are no limits to the number of teams allowed in the Bike the Triangle Challenge.
Q: How do I log multimodal trips like walk, transit, or carpool?
A: If you use more than one mode for your commute or travel, such as bicycle and bus or walking and bicycle, you can track that in the challenge. Just log each leg as a separate commute trip. The maximum number of bicycle trips that will earn points is 3 trips per day.
Q: Is a bicycle trip to my destination and then back considered one trip or two trips?
A: Each leg of a trip is considered one trip. If you ride a bicycle from your home to a destination, that is one trip. If you ride a bicycle from the destination back home or somewhere else, that is a second trip.
Q: Can I log bicycle trips to lunch or business trips during the day?
A: Yes, those trips count too. Any trip you take on a bicycle can be tracked to earn points, with a maximum of 3 points earned per day. Bicyclists will also receive 2 bonus points each day that a bicycle trip is tracked, so be sure to use your bicycle often and track those trips.
Q: Will I get more points if I go back to previous months and log trips?
A: Sorry, only trips taken from May 1 to May 31, 2022, will count for the Bike the Triangle Challenge. But you can still record trips any time of the year to track your savings and see how much money you’re saving or pollution (GHG) you prevent by choosing smart alternatives to driving alone.
Q: Do ebike or bikeshare trips count?
A: Yes, ebike and bikeshare trips earn points.
Q: Can I track trips other than bicycle?
A: Yes! Share the Ride NC can help encourage smart commute behavior by giving you information on your commute choices. Track carpool, vanpool, transit, walk, etc. to see the financial savings or environmental impacts of your choices. You can even track trips when you drive alone to see the negative impacts of drive alone travel.
